In the Aztec language of NAHUATL, the marigold is "Xempa -Xochitl" (Flower)-(Dead). In Castillian Spanish spelling was changed for easier pronounciation, 'Cempazuchil'.
The traditional flower of Day of the Dead, the marigold represents the sun's rays. The sun is the origin of all living things, the marigold symbolizes that the deceased has not lost their place in the universe.
